James S. Krause, PhD, is the Director of the Longevity after Injury Project, which encompasses several longitudinal projects with the ultimate goal of improving health, quality of life, and longevity after injury. This program of research has its roots in Dr. Krause's own experience with disability, as he has a neurologically complete spinal cord injury. Dr. Krause received his Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Krause currently serves as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition, Dr. Krause is the scientific director for the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund and director for the Center for Rehabilitation Research in Neurological Conditions. He has won many awards including the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Scientific Research in 2023. Dr. Krause has been the principal investigator of studies funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, American Association of Spinal Cord Injury Psychologists and Social Workers; Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, Department of Education, and National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, Administration for Community Living.
