The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the Department of Defense’s Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence and the work they do to support the warfighter through knowledge translated from research and applied to clinical and operational practice. We will showcase the cutting-edge research that is conducted across the military health system to advance warfighter brain health by delivering evidence-based clinical products to the many stakeholders across the Defense Health Agency. During this presentation, an in-depth review will be provided on how Implementation Science is being used to promote meaningful changes in Service member care, with a focus on bridging the gap between military clinicians and researchers. We highlight lessons learned that have led to innovations in addressing stakeholder needs and what Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence has to offer for clinician to get involved, emphasizing those who work in rehabilitation medicine.    

Learning Objectives:

• Upon completion, participants will be able to describe basic concepts related to Implementation Science and how to they are applied in the Military Health System.
• Upon completion, participants will be able to explain the importance of involving stakeholders when implementing evidence-based interventions in both local and system-wide healthcare systems.
• Upon completion, participants will be able to describe lessons learned to improve the uptake of evidence-based practice for evaluating and treating concussion/ mild traumatic brain injury.
• Upon completion, participants will be able to identify relevant resources by TBICoE to evaluate and treat concussion/mild traumatic brain injury, as well as common associated symptoms.
