Janet Freburger, PT, PhD, FAPTA is a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh. She has over 25 years of experience as a health services researcher with expertise in observational and pragmatic study designs focused on access to, appropriate use of, and effectiveness of rehabilitation and other types of health care. Dr. Freburger has also developed expertise in learning health systems research and implementation science. Her research has been funded by several agencies and foundations including the National Institutes of Health, the Patient Centered Outcome Research Institute, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Physical Therapy Foundation. She is currently University of Pittsburgh’s Principal Investigator for the Learning Health Systems Rehabilitation Research Network (LeaRRn), an NIH-funded resource center for rehabilitation researchers and the LEArning Health systems training to improve Disability and chronic condition care (LeaHD) center, an AHRQ and PCORI funded research training center. Dr. Freburger also serves as Co-Director of the Implementation Science core (the IMPACT Core) in the University of Pittsburgh’s Clinical Translational Science Institute. She received her PhD in Health Services Organizations and Research from Virginia Commonwealth University, her MS in Physical Therapy and Biomechanics from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland.
